Woman Charged With Killing Disabled Husband In Cherokee County

BREAKING: Betty Sue Parton is accused of murdering her husband, David, who suffered from Parkinson's Disease.

BALL GROUND, GA — A Cherokee County woman has been charged with murdering her husband who was suffering from Parkinson's Disease, the Cherokee Sheriff's Office said. Betty Sue Parton, of a Ball Ground address, is charged with felony murder, malice murder, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, aggravated battery and elder abuse.

The Cherokee Sheriff's Office on April 1 responded to a person down call at a home in the 3100 block of Ball Ground Road. They arrived to find David Parton, 76, dead inside the house. His 74-year-old wife "reported her husband had fallen and hit his head," sheriff's office spokesperson Jay Baker said.

Patron did have injuries that were consistent with a fall, and the initial cause of death was listed as unknown. However, Parton's body was sent to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab for an autopsy. The medical examiner in July reached out to sheriff's office detectives, and informed investigators that Parton's death allegedly occurred under suspicious circumstances. On Parton's autopsy report, the medical examiner listed the man's manner of death as homicide and the cause of death as blunt force trauma, the sheriff's office added.

A search warrant was executed in September at the Parton home, and detectives subsequently issued arrest warrants for Betty Sue Parton. She was arrested Oct. 9 at her home and was taken into custody at the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center.

According to arrest warrants, David Arthur Parton suffered from Parkinson's Disease and had limited mobility at the time of his death. The warrant notes Parton suffered injuries from blunt force trauma and hemorrhaging, which resulted in his death.
