Woman Injured In House Explosion In Cherokee County

BREAKING: Neighbors were able to rescue the woman from the flames following the explosion on Trenton Lane in Cherokee County

CANTON, GA — A woman suffered minor injuries when her house exploded Friday afternoon in eastern Cherokee County. The incident was reported at a home in the 200 block of Trenton Lane, which is north of Ga. 20 in the Free Home community.

Cherokee County fire crews were dispatched to the home around 12:37 p.m. Nov. 30 and found heavy flames and some partial collapse of the structure, said Fire Chief Tim Prather. Personnel found the resident, a woman, injured in the backyard.

"Neighbors reported hearing a loud explosion and afterwards, heard screams for help," Prather said.

Two neighbors ran to the scene and found the woman "screaming for help." The Good Samaritans were able to move the woman to the backyard, but soon after, heavy fire took over the house.

Prather said the woman was conscious and alert at the scene, and was taken to an area hospital for treatment. Evidence indicates there "was some type of explosion" inside the residence, and crews are actively working to determine the cause, Prather said. No other injuries were reported.
