🌱 16-Year-Old Shot In Columbus + CPD Warns Of '100 Deadliest Days'

  1. Columbus Police are investigating a shooting that occurred on Sunday, Jun. 18, around 12:20 a.m. on Bradley Park Drive in the parking lot of the Bradley Park Crossing Center. The victim was a 16-year-old male who suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was taken to Piedmont Columbus Regional Hospital in critical condition. (WRBL)
  2. The Columbus Police Department's Crime Prevention Community Relations Unit has been speaking at local high schools during prom season to warn teens of the “100 Deadliest Days of Summer.” Between Memorial Day and Labor Day, the number of fatal teen auto accidents increases dramatically. According to the American Automobile Association, each day during that time an average of seven people are killed in "teen driver-related crashes." (WRBL)
  3. The City of Columbus is hosting the 2023 Georgia Police and Fire games now through Jun. 24. Today, Jun. 20, is the second day of the games and will feature events including "Toughest Cop," mountain biking, basketball, archery, a burger challenge, and more.   • On Jun. 17, the Columbus Police Department's Special Operations Unit partnered with the Muscogee County School District Police Department to conduct a one-day operation to decrease criminal activity in the city. The operation recovered two handguns, one pound of marijuana, and ecstasy. The 119 investigative stops also cleared three warrants and led to five custodial arrests.   • Tara Schiphof was recently crowned 2023 Miss Georgia! As her community service initiative, she plans to bring #YesYouCan to schools across the state. The initiative aims to stop the negative connotation that surrounds failure and give it a new meaning. (WRBL)
