Here are the top three stories in Columbus today:
- Columbus police are investigating a shooting that occurred on Sunday, Apr. 30, on Watkins Drive in Columbus. According to officials, a female was shot in the ankle in the 2200 block of Watkins Drive. Her injuries are reported as non-life threatening. As of May 1, no suspect has been named. (WTVM 9)
- Birmingham’s Capstone Building Corp. has completed Mill Village, the $29 million Columbus housing project. The apartment complex features 102 units, an urban garden, playground, on-site medical clinic, business center, health and fitness center, clubhouse, and community room within the 137,000-square-foot community. - On May 13, Safe Kids Columbus will distribute 600 free life jackets to children aged 17 and under during the annual River Savvy Kids event. Piedmont Columbus Regional is hosting the event during River Fest from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Woodruff Riverfront Park, located at 1000 Bay Ave. in Columbus. The event aims to teach kids important river safety information and provide them with a "new, individually-fitted life jacket and free Salt Life ballcap." (WRBL)

- The Georgia Department of Transportation has begun the early stages of construction to improve Bradley Park Drive at State Route 22, U.S. Highway 80, and J.R. Allen Parkway this week. No roads are closed yet, but drivers are encouraged to slow down when passing through work zones. (WTVM 9)
