- Hannah Palmer, 18, of Columbus, was awarded one of Mediacom's $1,000 World Class Scholarships in recognition of her exceptional academic performance and leadership qualities. Palmer, who graduated with a 4.25 GPA, was involved in various honor societies, volunteered locally, and excelled in dance competitions. She plans to pursue speech pathology at the University of Georgia and hopes to make a positive impact on children's lives. (WRBL)
- "Side Trails," a Western-themed TV series based on a Georgia author's novel, is set to begin filming in Columbus this summer pending a final agreement. The show will offer local residents the opportunity to be background actors, with the initial filming scheduled at the living history museum Historic Westville. The filming could also bring much-needed revenue to Westville, which temporarily closed earlier due to financial challenges. (GPB)
- Safe Kids Columbus is seeking volunteers for the upcoming Bike Rodeo and Helmet Raffle events taking place in July. The events aim to provide helmets to over 250 children, and volunteers are especially needed for helmet-fitting positions. Training will be provided on the day of the events – Jul. 19 and Jul. 20 – and interested individuals can register for the events at the link. (Word Times Today)
