  1. During the Georgia Municipal Association's (GMA) annual convention, the organization presented long-time retired Executive Director Jim Burgess with the Lifetime Achievement Award. Between the early 80s to mid-90s, Burgess played a pivotal role in creating and growing a variety of programs, as well as services that are currently offered by GMA. In addition, another one of Burgess' most significant accomplishments includes helping to form the first-ever city-county consolidation, specifically in Columbus and Muscogee County. 2. On Wednesday, Jun. 27, the Columbus City Council voted to approve a new budget that lowers property tax for residents in Fountain City. A budget of $334 million was officially approved for the 2024 year and a majority of this funding will go toward community services, public works, recreation and culture, public safety, and more. According to Councilwoman Toyia Tucker, many residents will feel a sense of relief with next year's budget increase. (WTVM)
  3. According to the Muscogee County Sheriff's Office, a wanted and validated gang member in Columbus with numerous outstanding warrants has officially been arrested.
