Here are the top three stories in Columbus today:
- Columbus police announced that 52-year-old Chris Binns was arrested in Kansas on May 11 in connection with the death of 50-year-old Kerry Binns in Columbus. On Nov. 17, 2022, officials found Kerry Binns deceased in Grove Park Apartments on Grove Park Drive, with the cause of death unknown. A warrant was issued for the arrest of Chris Binns last Thursday, May 4, based on probable cause. Chris Binns will be extradited to Columbus and then a court date will be set. (WTVM 9)
- For those attending local events like Riverfest, Mother's Day weekend will be mostly hot, with fewer storms and a lower chance of rain. On Saturday, May 13, it will be hot, with a high of 89 degrees. There may be a few isolated storms later in the afternoon and evening, with a chance of rain at 20 percent. Sunday, May 14, will be about the same with a high of 92 degrees and a 20 percent chance of rain. (WTVM 9)
- On May 11, the Dollar General Literacy Foundation donated about $285,000 to nonprofits, schools, and libraries in the state of Georgia to help start or improve literacy initiatives statewide. The foundation awarded a $9,000 grant to Columbus Technical College Foundation, Inc. and a $8,500 grant to International Friendship Ministries in Columbus. (WRBL)

- The Columbus Police Department is seeking the public's assistance in identifying a suspect who allegedly broke into the 101 Vape Shop on Lakeshore Road on Apr. 11 and stole more than $4,000 worth of vape products. - On May 11, the Moore family's exhibit was unveiled at the National Infantry Museum in Columbus! The new exhibit, dedicated to the work and service of General Hal and Julia Moore, will be at the museum for about six months. (WTVM 9)
