Here are the top three stories in Columbus today:
- Columbus City Council has agreed to collect data and look into a new project that would connect Interstate 14 in Texas to Georgia and run through Columbus. According to Frank Lumpkin, the City of Columbus would have to "send a letter to the Georgia Department of Transportation requesting they petition the Federal Highway Association to open Interstate 14 in Columbus." (WTVM 9)
- Local businesses in Columbus are offering a variety of events for people who want to celebrate Mother's Day this week. Activities include a paint party, a Mother and Son Dance, and a Wax and Wine event, all taking place on May 12 and 13. A Bojangles restaurant is also offering free heart-shaped Bo-Berry biscuits to customers who use the code "MothersDay" on their app from May 12 to 14. (WRBL)
- A section of Psalmond Road is set to be closed for one week starting May 22, due to road construction. The north intersection of Psalmond Road and Beaver Run Road will be affected, and drivers are advised to follow detour signs during this time. The closure is expected to last a week, provided the weather conditions remain favorable. (WTVM 9)

- On Wednesday, May 10, seven student-athletes at Columbus High and Hardaway were signed to the next level: college sports! Congratulations to Columbus High's Fidel Small and Mason Schoonover, and Hardaway's Braxton Deriso, Xion Jackson, Guensley Sajous, Alexander Graham, and Keilon Mix. (WTVM 9)
