Here are the top three stories in Columbus today:
- Columbus police are investigating an armed robbery that led to shots fired at Columbus’ Peachtree Mall on Tuesday, May 2. According to police officials, at around 11:35 a.m., two suspects robbed SB Jewelry and Sunglasses store at the mall. Shots were fired after the suspects left with some of the merchandise. No injuries were reported and no suspects have been named as of Wednesday. Columbus PD asks anyone with information regarding this incident to contact the authorities.(WTVM 9)
- Columbus police are investigating a vehicle crash that resulted in a 4-year-old being critically injured. The incident occurred on Kings Mountain Road in south Columbus on Tuesday, May 2. As of the time of publishing, officials are still investigating what caused the accident and how many vehicles were involved. (WTVM 9)
- On Tuesday morning, May 2, the Columbus Police Department hosted its 40th Annual Law Enforcement Torch Run to raise money and bring awareness to the Special Olympics Georgia. More than 60 runners, including members of the Columbus Police Department, the Muscogee County Sheriff’s Office, Columbus Fire & EMS, Fort Benning, and members of the local community, made the almost five-mile trek for the huge fundraising event. Sgt. Dan Lyon with the Columbus Police Department described the turnout as one of the largest in the past ten years and enjoyed seeing the community come together for the event. (WRBL)
