Here are the top three stories today in Columbus:
- David Shafer, the outgoing chairman of the Georgia Republican Party, announced that Former President Donald Trump will be in Columbus to address the state convention at the Columbus Georgia Convention & Trade Center on Jun. 9 and Jun. 10. Trump is also expected to be in downtown Columbus on Jun. 10, but the schedule has not been announced as of May 22. Shafer said all the Republican presidential candidates have been invited, Trump was just the first to commit. (WKRG)
- The Muscogee County coroner has identified the two victims of a recent fatal vehicle crash as 54-year-old Phong Do and 48-year-old Toan Neugen. According to the Columbus Police Department, the crash occurred near Hancock Road and Cedar Ridge Drive on the night of May 21 and both victims were pronounced dead at the scene around 12:15 a.m. on May 22. The cause of the accident is currently unknown. (WTVM 9)
- RiverCenter for the Performing Arts will present Madagascar the Musical, a new DreamWorks musical based on the animated film, on Jul. 1 with performances at 2:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. The musical will feature all the original music and beloved characters including Alex the Lion, Marty the Zebra, Melman the Giraffe, Gloria the Hippo, and more. According to RiverCenter Executive Director Norman Easterbrook, “It’s a show that is fun for the entire family and, with two performances on Jul. 1, it’s a great way to start a Jul. 4th holiday vacation in Columbus.” (WRBL)

- The Columbus murder trial for Jamari Sider is expected to begin this week with opening statements. Sider, who was 21-years-old at the time of the crime, is charged with the murder of his girlfriend, Chasity Walker, in 2020. (WTVM 9)
- Southern Living Magazine listed Columbus as one of the "Top 20 Memorial Day Weekend Destinations in the South!" Columbus was ranked number 11, just narrowly missing the top ten behind Panama City, Florida. The Chattahoochee Riverwalk, the National Infantry Museum, and Mabella were featured in the magazine as places to visit in Columbus. (Yahoo News)
