Here are the top five stories today in Cumming:
- Six Forsyth County students were arrested last week after several threats were made toward county schools. The threats ranged from bomb-related to death-related and someone bringing a gun to school. Although an investigation conducted by Forsyth County law enforcement and school district officials determined that all threats were not real, Forsyth County Sheriff Ron Freeman said the county still takes them seriously. County leaders advised parents to talk to students about the seriousness of school threats and their consequences. (WSBTV)
- Coal Mountain Elementary is seeking dad volunteers for its "Watch DOG Dads" program on Tuesday, Apr. 11, and Tuesday, Apr. 18. The school is asking for assistance with its morning car line, morning announcements, and help in the cafeteria during lunchtime. Those interested can sign up today, or contact Leslie Storm for more information at lstorm@forsyth.k12.ga.us. (Coal Mountain Elementary via Facebook)
- Hope Fellowship, a Southern Baptist congregation of just under 100 members, is preparing to build its own church off Highway 369 after being awarded a grant of $782,678 by the John C. Lasko Foundation Trust. The grant, which focuses on helping to construct lasting churches and spreading the Christian faith, requires that the church would have already purchased land and raised half of the money needed for the completion of the project. Hope Fellowship met those requirements through regular donations and giving during Sunday services. (Subscription: Forsyth County News)
