- The University of North Georgia is now accepting applications to its National Intelligence Summer Academy through Apr. 15. The academy, which gives high schoolers the opportunity to learn from former top FBI and KGB agents, runs from Jul. 17-21. It promises 50 rising high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors an in-depth look at careers in intelligence. Students will hear from guest speakers about the history of intelligence, cybersecurity, possible jobs, the functions of the intelligence field, and more. Interested students can apply here. - Cumming's City Center has opened a new area for its Buy-A-Brick program. The brick program started in June of 2021 as a way for residents to become part of City Centerβs legacy. Each brick features the cityβs logo, and bricks will now be placed around the Plaza Fountain and the Steam Engine Plaza. - This week, Forsyth County Sheriff's Office is kicking off a new traffic safety initiative. Drivers should expect a significant increase in traffic enforcement on Forsyth Square and nearby school zones. Any red light, speeding, or crosswalk violations will be ticketed. - Tony Tarnacki is the new assistant county manager, Forsyth County officials announced on Friday. Tarnacki, a South Forsyth high school graduate, has served as a magistrate judge, an adjunct criminal justice professor, and a juvenile court investigator. In this role, Tarnacki will be responsible for Forsyth County's planning and community development, parks and recreation, code enforcement, and animal series, and more. He is replacing Brandon Kenny. - Shipley Do-Nuts held a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday to celebrate the stateβs first Houston-based doughnut chain location. The first Shipley Do-Nuts location in Georgia is now open in Forsyth County at 3225 Keith Bridge Rd. (Forsyth County News Online)

- Sunday (Mar. 26) marked 20 years since Forsyth County Sheriffβs Office Sergeant David P. Land was killed in the line of duty. Land was involved in a motor vehicle accident while responding to a 911 call for service on Mar. 26, 2003. He was only 32 years old and had just been promoted to Sergeant. - Open every Saturday since October, this year is Cumming Farmers Market's inaugural season of having a year-round market. They are open every Saturday from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Cumming's City Center parking lot. (Cumming Farmers Market via Facebook)
- Applications for the new Tammy Waddell Memorial Scholarship and the Wayne Jones Memorial Scholarship are now open to Forsyth County students! Those interested can apply on the school districtβs website here. (Forsyth County News Online)
