Here are the top five stories in and around Cumming today:

  1. The eastbound lane of the Cumming Highway was closed on Monday morning due to a spill. According to the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, raw chicken parts made up the spill. Police notified the media at 11:00 a.m., and a Fox5 helicopter witnessed the spill being cleaned up at about 12:10 p.m. that same day; no further information has been released as of Monday afternoon.   2. Yesterday at about 5:30 p.m., a teenage boy from nearby Flowery Branch was apprehended in connection with a pellet gun shooting spree on the I-985, that affected at least 10 cars. The teen is charged with one count of aggravated assault, and one count of terroristic threatening and assault; further charges are being considered. One woman was shot in the back of the head and treated for non-life-threatening injuries. If you were driving on the highway around that time and believe you have pellet damage to your car, please call the Hall County Dispatch at 770-536-8812 to file a report. (Fox5)
  3. Down the road in Cherokee County, officials are requesting the public's assistance in locating missing man Matthew Hard. He has brown hair, weighs about 190 lbs., is 5'9" tall, and is 30 years old; he was last seen on Jul. 4 and drives a black 2005 Toyota Camry.   4. The family of a Cumming resident who was killed in a head-on collision is seeking help from the community. The niece of Salvador Cervantes of Cumming, whose vehicle was struck by a drunk driver last week, has established a GoFundMe to cover expenses and support the Cervantes family.   5. Strong thunderstorms and showers are expected across the Atlanta metro from Thursday through Sunday. Cooler temperatures and lower humidity are expected in the front half of the week. A day-by-day weather forecast can be found at the link. (Patch)
