Here are the top five stories today in Cumming:

  1. Local artists ages 18 and older are invited to submit their work to the “Summer in the City” Community Art Show. The exhibition is hosted by the Cumming Arts Center and offers opportunities to win cash prizes in categories including 2D, photography, and 3D artwork. Submissions are due by midnight tonight, Jun. 15. (Cumming Patch)
  2. Police say they are investigating a deadly shooting that stemmed from a violent altercation in Forsyth County on May 17. Officers responded to the scene at 2535 Ivy Street around 8:00 a.m. to find 23-year-old Hamilton Samuel Darwin of Cumming dead and 20-year-old Ja’Mychael Quintrez Peavy critically injured. The case is still under investigation, though detectives have obtained a felony murder arrest warrant for Peavy. (Appen Media)
  3. Forsyth County Parks and Recreation is offering a series of youth basketball camps this summer. The next camp begins Monday, Jun. 19, and runs through Jun. 22.   4. Forsyth County commissioners recently went head-to-head in a debate regarding term limits for the Board of Commissioners. A proposed change would limit service on the board to a maximum of three consecutive terms, or 12 years of service. If enacted, commissioners Todd Levent and Cindy Jones Mill would both be ineligible to serve another term. (Appen Media)
