County Seeks Mentors for Holiday Season

Mentors are needed for Forsyth County students, including eighth graders selected to receive a scholarship from the county.

Forsyth County is seeking mentors for students in it school system, including students selected to receive a newly-funded scholarship program.

Mentor Me North Georgia and the Forsyth County Social Services Committee have combined forces to create the Reach2 Scholarship, patterned after the Reach Scholarship championed by Gov. Nathan Deal.

The scholarship is available for academically-advanced eighth graders, according to Commissioner Cindy Jones Mills.

In addition to the scholarship, 30 students enrolled in Mentor Me programs are still waiting to be paired with a mentor, Jones Mills said. Students in each Forsyth County school are in search of mentors as well.

“It is proven that kids with mentors are less likely to get on drugs and more likely to graduate from high school,” Jones Mills said.
