Here are the top five stories today in Cumming:

  1. CrossFit Dynamo in Cumming has raised $437,766 for childhood cancer research since 2017 and is hoping to hit $500,000 this summer. The owner, John Manser, created the fundraiser called 24 in 24, where participants complete 24 WODs (workouts of the day) in 24 hours and then donate the money to the Rally Foundation. The annual event brings between 55 and 100 local participants. Manser would love for other gyms to participate with the ultimate goal of getting to a place where the community can raise hundreds of thousands of dollars per year. (Morning Chalk Up)
  2. Pinecrest Academy is pleased to announce Dr. Blanca Plazas Snyder as the PreK3 through eighth grade principal for the 2023-2024 school year! Dr. Snyder was the head of middle school at St. Gabriel’s Catholic School in Austin, Texas, and brings over 10 years of experience in educational policy and research and classroom experience. β€œI am humbled and honored to join a Christ-centered school community that is focused on forming Christian leaders who will transform the world,” Snyder said. Former Principal Lenny Forti, who served since July 2019, will be retiring in July. (Cumming Patch)
  3. Former Cumming attorney Alex Myers is now Dawson County’s next chief magistrate. After serving as a local attorney, Myers began work as a judge in July 2020, upon graduating in 2018 from the Mercer University School of Law. Alex was appointed to the new role by the superior judges of the judicial circuit and was sworn in as chief magistrate judge during a ceremony on Apr. 27, filling the unexpired term of Anthony Tarncki who recently announced his resignation from the bench.
