- Earlier this month, Kimberly Crockett, school nurse at Cumming Elementary was recognized by Forsyth County Schools Health Facilitator, Heidi Avila, for saving the life of Para-pro Gina Holtzclaw. - The Atlanta History Center is investigating the 1912 Forsyth County lynching of Rob Edwards and the resulting forced displacement of Black residents from the county. In 1912, more than 1,000 Black residents of Forsyth fled their homes due to racial violence. Forsyth statistics and census data were examined to reveal the displacement of and relocation of this element of the county population. They left behind jobs and property which white residents took over and claim for themselves or sell. Some Black residents fled to neighboring counties while some went as far as Tennessee. - On Jun. 2, Cumming residents are urged to wear orange. The mayor and city council members say gun safety is the reason as they make plans to honor Gun Violence Awareness Day. See the City's Facebook Page for more details. (Subscription: Forsyth County News Online)
