  1. The City of Cumming in Georgia is hosting its annual Memorial Day Ceremony on May 26 at the Veterans War Memorial. The event will include various speakers, a memorial wreath presentation, an Avenue of Flags Dedication, and a white dove release. Chaplain Leland Jones, a military veteran and Senior Pastor, will serve as the keynote speaker. The ceremony will take place at the Veterans War Memorial in Cumming. (Newsbreak)
  2. Karima Jiwani was arrested nearly four years after a newborn baby, later named Baby India, was found abandoned in a plastic bag in a wooded area in Forsyth County. Jiwani is believed to be the child's biological mother and has been charged with various offenses, including criminal attempted murder and first-degree cruelty to children. The investigation, involving multiple law enforcement agencies, led to Jiwani's arrest, and Baby India is currently in foster care under the supervision of the Georgia Department of Family and Children Services.   3. Kevin Rodriguez, who was wanted for aggravated child molestation charges in Forsyth County, was successfully arrested by the U.S. Marshals in DeSoto Parish, Louisiana. The arrest was made with the assistance of DeSoto Parish deputies. Rodriguez will undergo local court proceedings in Louisiana before being extradited to Georgia to face charges. (KTAL News)
  4. Forsyth County Commissioner Cindy Jones Mills was honored as the 2023 Leadership Development Advocate of the Year by the Association of County Commissioners of Georgia.   5. Jorge Martinez-Perez, a Cumming resident, was arrested by Forsyth County Sheriff's deputies on charges of DUI, hit-and-run, and drug possession. Deputies responded to a possible car accident and observed signs of alcohol intoxication on Martinez-Perez. They also discovered a white powder that tested positive for cocaine during the investigation. Martinez-Perez is currently in custody at the Forsyth County Jail with a bond set at $19,400.
