- Georgia's Poet Laureate, Chelsea Rathburn, in collaboration with the Georgia Council for the Arts, has announced the winner and finalists of the 10th annual Poet Laureate's Prize. The prestigious award recognizes an original poem by a high school student in Georgia, aiming to inspire and engage young poets. Eniola Badejo, a 12th-grade student from Hillgrove High School, emerged as the winner with her poem titled "Right Here." Andrea Lam, of Cumming, was a finalist for the poem, "Morning Anemoia." - In nearby Gainesville, police are actively searching for Emcee Dante Weaver, 28, who is accused of shooting another man during a dispute over a woman on Jul. 4. The incident occurred at the intersection of Dawsonville Highway and McEver Road. Weaver, who was treated for a shoulder injury after being shot, now faces charges of aggravated assault and reckless conduct, and authorities are urging him to surrender. Individuals with information on Weaver's whereabouts are encouraged to contact the police. (News Break)
- Thanks to the efforts of Atlanta siblings, Temima Genauer, 12, and Jack Genauer, 9, the Georgia Lemonade Act has become law, allowing kids to legally operate lemonade stands and sell other beverages on private property. The young entrepreneurs gained firsthand experience through their business, "Lemonade in the Shade," during the COVID-19 school shutdown. Their father, Rami Genauer, guided them in understanding market research, licensing requirements, and even the legislative process. (GPB)
