Family's Dog Hanged Near Lake Lanier

A sheriff's office spokesperson said the hanging appeared to be an intentional act. Deputies are awaiting necropsy results.

The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office is looking for the person or people who hanged a family’s dog in a park near Lake Lanier over the weekend.

Two hikers on a trail in Bethel Park in Gainesville discovered the body of the female boxer mix attached to a fallen tree by a rope Saturday morning, sheriff’s office spokesman Epifanio Rodriguez told Patch.

β€œThe evidence on scene shows that it was an intentional act,” Rodriguez added.

The dog disappeared from her home near the park on Friday, her owners told Forsyth County News. A sheriff’s deputy asked them to come in on Saturday and identify the remains of what turned out to be their dog.

Investigators are working the case and are awaiting the results of the dog’s necropsy to determine how she died, Rodriguez said.
