The University of North Georgia, with campuses in Cumming, Gainesville, Watkinsville, and Blue Ridge, and headquartered in Dahlonega, anticipates the arrival of Mike Shannon, as the new President, upon his recommendation by the Board of Regents. Shannon is expected to take control after the resignation of current President Bonita Jacobs in June 2023. (U.S. News & World Report)
  2. Forsyth County Primary Election results are in! All precincts had reported results by 11:52 p.m. Tuesday night. Offices voted for included positions in local districts, board of education, Governor, Attorney General, Commissioners of Agriculture, Insurance, and State School Superintendent. (Patch)
  3. Be on the lookout for a missing person, Pamela VanNorman. The 79-year-old was last seen Monday night in the vicinity of the car dealership on the 800 block of Atlanta Highway in Cumming. Forsyth County Sheriffs request anyone with information or who has seen her, call 911. She was last seen wearing black pants with white stripes and a beige top. (11 Alive )
  4. A second school shooting threat directed toward West Forsyth High School was identified Tuesday on Snapchat. After an investigation, the police took the student who posted the threat into custody. The suspect is a minor whose identity has not been released. (Fox 5 Atlanta)
  5. Joshua Douthit, a resident of Cumming, has been apprehended and is currently detained in the Forsyth County Jail. He faces several serious charges, including first-degree burglary involving forced entry into a residence, theft of a transaction card, identity fraud, and criminal trespass as a misdemeanor offense. The homeowner reported a burglary on Mar. 9, and deputies arrested the suspect on May 2. (Appen Media)

  • The Forsyth County Sheriff's Office welcomes its latest addition to the Crime Reduction Unit as K9 Maverick joins the team. This two-year-old Belgian Malinois, known by the call sign "Maverick," is set to begin his first shift tonight alongside his partner, Corporal Escolano.
