  1. Houston-based Shipley Do-Nuts has opened its first Georgia location at Keith Bridge Road in Cumming. Shipley Do-Nuts is a known maker of gourmet, made-fresh-daily do-nuts, kolaches, hot coffee, and cold brew. The franchise is locally owned and operated by "Ozzie" Rodriguez, who also owns Coal Mountain Package Store and Palapas Bar and Grill. (PR Newswire)
  2. Cumming Republican Sen. Greg Dolezal’s Senate Bill 233 is moved through its house subcommittee. Bill 233 would provide $6,000 to parents in the state’s lowest-performing public schools. Parents are then to use the money to send their children to private schools. On Monday, it moved forward in a House subcommittee with a boost from prominent Republicans. (Now Habersham)
  3. The Forsyth County Arts Alliance just opened its 2023 Grant Cycle. The alliance is a philanthropic organization that exists to support the arts in Forsyth County. Eligible applicants for its grants include registered 501(c)3 nonprofit organizations, governmental entities, libraries, and schools. (Press Release Desk)
  4. A local fisherman placed third in the Bass Fishing League Tournament on Lake HartwellPaul Marks of Cumming caught five basses weighing 17 pounds, 13 ounces and won $1,845 for his victory. After this event, Marks now leads the BFL Savannah River Division Boater Angler of the Year (AOY) race with 742 points. (BassResource.com)
