First Frost Expected Tonight, Early in the Morning

If you've yet to dig those jackets and coats out of the closet, today may be the day to consider getting ready for some chilly weather.

The National Weather Service has issued a frost advisory, in effect from 2 to 9 a.m. Thursday, for portions of north and central Georgia, which includes Cumming and Forsyth County. Temperatures are expected to range from the lower to middle 30s, mainly along and north of a line from LaGrange to the city of Forsythe to Warrenton. Sensitive outdoor plants could be killed if left uncovered, according to the advisory.

The late-October chill will result from surges of cold air expected to plunge into the eastern half of the country with a dip in the jet stream, reports the Weather Channel. Some cities will see their first frost or freeze of the season, with low temps in the Midwest dipping to the 20s or low 30s, and in the Southeast, to the low 30s as far south as north Georgia.

In Cumming, expect patchy frost after 4 a.m. Thursday, with a low of about 37, and areas of frost through about 9 a.m. Thursday, according to the NWS forecast. The highs are expected to reach the low 60s. 

A frost advisory means that frost is expected. Cumming could see another frost Friday night and early Saturday morning and maybe a freeze warning for parts of northern Georgia, according to the NWS' hazardous weather outlook.
