Here are the top five stories in Cumming today:

  1. Forsyth County commissioners have approved an additional $155,200 in funding for the new County Administration Building project, aimed at consolidating various departments into a single facility for residents' convenience. The four-story, 130,000-square-foot main building will be part of the Administration Campus, also housing an Employee Center, health facility, and greenspace. The Administration Campus project, including additional costs, is estimated to be $140 million and is slated for a 2025 opening, with Jericho Design Group overseeing engineering and contracting.   2. Atlantic Capital Partners has successfully facilitated the $17.5 million transaction for Sharon Greens, a shopping center in Cumming, anchored by Kroger. The sale was represented by Justin Smith, Fred Victor, Chris Peterson, Sam Koonce, and Danielle Donovan of Atlantic Capital Partners, who secured both the institutional seller and the buyer. Sharon Greens, boasting a 98,301-square-foot area and built in 2001, was 98 percent leased at the time of sale and featured notable tenants, such as Kroger, Chase Bank, and Heartland Dental. The City of Cumming Recreation & Parks Department is introducing new Open Gym times at the Dobbs Creek Recreation Center, featuring activities like Pickleball, Volleyball, Basketball, and Indoor Walking. They offer two pass types: "ALL-IN Passes" encompassing Open Gym and CRPD Fitness Classes at the Cumming Recreation Center, and "Family Passes" exclusively for Open Gym activities at Dobbs Creek Recreation Center.   4. A 7-year-old girl from Forsyth County organized a lemonade stand along with her friends and neighbors to support the nearby Blue Springs Farm. The farm experienced a devastating fire that claimed the lives of 26 horses. The young girl's initiative aimed to raise funds to help the riding school recover from the tragic incident.   5. The Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit and SWAT Team executed a felony aggravated assault warrant at a residence on Kelly Drive. The warrant arose from a domestic dispute, during which a male suspect allegedly attempted to strangle a female victim. The SWAT and negotiation teams' efforts to encourage the suspect's surrender were unsuccessful, leading to the deployment of a robot and K-9 deputy inside the residence, where the suspect was discovered with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The suspect was taken to the hospital in critical condition, and investigations are ongoing regarding the incident and the suspect's injury. (Appen Media)
