Here are the top five stories today in Cumming:

  1. Forsyth County Schools is preparing to address overcrowding in its elementary schools by undergoing redistricting before the 2024-2025 academic year. Plans were presented by Deputy Superintendent Mitch Young, aiming to finalize them in the fall after drafts of the redistricting map are showcased on Sep. 12. The redistricting will also accommodate the new Midway Elementary School, with the process set to impact various schools and include provisions for students in dual language immersion programs. 2. Nearly two decades ago, Patrice Endres disappeared from her Forsyth County salon. She went missing in April 2004, and her skeletal remains were discovered over a year later in Dawson County. Law enforcement officials are still seeking information about her case, particularly regarding her missing wedding ring, and encourage anyone with relevant details to contact the GBI tip line at (800) 597-8477. (WRBL)
  3. Registration is currently open until Aug. 25 for Men's Open Competitive and Men's Open Recreational sports leagues. These leagues are for individuals aged 17 and above, and the specific location is yet to be determined. More information and registration details can be found here. 4. Jackson Burbrink, a 16-year-old Forsyth County resident, is working on his Eagle Scout project to create an educational talking tree trail at Shakerag Park in nearby Johns Creek. He aims to install vandal-resistant and weatherproof speakers that activate through a hand crank to provide facts about the trees. Burbrink is seeking community support to fund the ambitious $12,000 project, having raised around $5,600 so far, and he's offering different sponsorship tiers for donors to contribute and be recognized on the trail. 5. As the back-to-school season begins, Forsyth County poll workers are also gearing up for their essential role in the elections process. Poll workers undergo diverse training to prepare for their responsibilities. Those interested in joining the poll worker team can attend a Poll Worker Preview Session to gain insights into this opportunity. (Forsyth County Georgia Government via Facebook)
