Here are the top five stories in Cumming today:
- A 19-year-old man from Cumming was arrested for doing alleged burnouts in a parking lot in nearby Alpharetta. Officers responded to the incident at 6 p.m. Sunday, Mar. 26, and found the suspect in a silver sedan surrounded by a crowd of people. The driver was arrested and charged with "reckless stunt driving." (Appen Media)
- Tractor trailers hauling forestry and agricultural products on Georgia roads may be getting heavier after recent legislation passed by the Georgia Senate. On Thursday, Mar. 23, senators approved House Bill 189, which increases the allowed weight from 84,000 pounds to 88,000 pounds for logging trucks as well as trucks carrying vegetables, solid waste, and recycling. The legislation restricts the heaviest trucks from driving in the metro Atlanta area. (Subscription: Chattanooga Times Free Press)
- Students from South Forsyth High School won second place in the student chef competition held by the Georgia Department of Education. The two-student team won for their Mexican Chicken Bowl recipe. Students competed in both recipe development and a cooking demonstration, and the winning recipes may be included in school lunch menus throughout the state. - On Sunday, Mar. 26, authorities recovered the body of a 61-year-old man found in nearby Lake Lanier. The discovery caused a temporary shutdown at Bolding Mill Park. The man has not yet been identified and the investigation is ongoing. (WCJL)
