New County Jail Opens in Cumming

Inmates were transferred into the new facility without incident, sheriff's deputies say.

On Friday September 11, 2015, the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office successfully opened the doors to the new Forsyth County Jail. All inmates who were housed in the old detention center were transferred into the new jail without incident. The opening of the new jail coincides with the closing of the old detention center. The address of the Forsyth County Jail will remain as 202 Veterans Memorial Blvd.

Additional services that will be provided at the new jail will be public records. Their hours of operation will remain the same; 8:30 am-5:30 p.m.

The old detention center will eventually be torn down, the sheriff’s office says. The space will then be used for parking, and could be used to expand the jail if ever necessary.
