Here are the top five stories today in Cumming:
- Last week, a volunteer at Sharon Forks Library in Cumming caused a major response by typing in a bomb threat on a computer in the children's section. The library was evacuated, and K-9 officers were called in to search for explosives, but none were found. After an investigation, it was discovered that the volunteer was the sole person responsible for the threats, leading to their ban from all Forsyth County libraries. (95.5 WSB)
- As schools resume and more school buses hit the road, it's essential to know the law regarding passing them. According to the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office, drivers in both directions on a two-lane road and multi-lane road with a center turn lane must stop for a school bus that is picking up or dropping off kids. However, drivers going in the opposite direction on a multi-lane road with a permanent barrier or grass/concrete median do not need to stop but should still reduce speed and drive cautiously. It's important to be aware that many school buses have stop-arm cameras to catch those who violate this law. (Yahoo! News)
- A survey of northern Forsyth County was conducted to determine if a tornado had occurred on Jul. 20, but the National Weather Service (NWS) assessment found that the extensive wind damage was not indicative of a discernible tornado path. The area experienced significant widespread wind damage, likely caused by straight-line winds or downbursts associated with a thunderstorm complex. The estimated peak wind speed in the region was 95 mph, resembling mid-range EF1 damage, and fortunately, there were no reported fatalities or injuries from the event. - Heidi Avila, the health services facilitator for Forsyth County Schools, has been honored as Georgia's School Nurse Administrator of the Year. The recognition was given by the Georgia Association of School Nurses, and the Forsyth County Board of Education congratulated her during a regular meeting. Her dedication and outstanding contributions to school health services have earned her this prestigious award. (Subscription: Forsyth County News)

The event aims to deliver an education update for the county, highlighting the current state and future prospects of the educational system. (Subscription: Forsyth County News)
