  1. Shipley Do-Nuts has opened five new locations in the first quarter of 2023, including in Maryland and Georgia, and aims for double-unit growth in 2023 over 2022. The Houston-based brand opened its first Georgia location in Cumming in March. The company has also increased its focus on innovation and technology, with 80 percent of the system now enrolled in a new online ordering system, and plans to introduce its first-ever loyalty program systemwide later this year.   2. Cumming native Lindsey Williams was recognized by Shorter University for academic excellence in musical theater. The annual ceremony held by the University included the presentation of awards to seniors who have excelled in their academic studies and earned top honors in various academic disciplines.   3. Only a few days are left to vote for Kelly Mill Elementary's Richard Toomey as Custodian of the Year. The award winner will receive $10,000 and $5,000 in Cintas and Rubbermaid products and services to their school. The winner's school will also receive a facility assessment and consulting package from ISSA and enrollment in the Global Biorisk Advisory Council Fundamentals Online Course. The voting period for the 2023 Custodian of the Year hosted by the Cintas Corporation closes on Friday, Apr. 14. (CleanLink)

The University of Tennessee (UT) at Martin's golf team finished the TSU Big Blue Intercollegiate tournament in sixth place with an overall score of 854 (+2), with freshman Dax Isbell, a Cumming native, leading the team for the second straight tournament with a score of 212 (-1). Isbell placed 12th in the field of 90 participants, and he led the entire tournament in par-5 scoring while topping UT Martin in par-4 scoring. (UTM Athletics)
