Student Suspended After Pepper Spray Goes Off on School Bus

Officials from Cumming Elementary say the student purposely pushed the release button during an argument.

A 10-year-old girl from Cumming Elementary School faces two days out-of-school suspension after she reportedly pressed the release button on a can of pepper spray on a Cumming Elementary school bus during the afternoon dismissal.

About 45 students were evacuated from the bus on March 2 after the incident, Patch previously reported. Students were examined and treated on campus by medical personnel.

Cumming Elementary School officials who investigated the incident says the girl released the pepper spray on purpose during an argument, according to Forsyth County News.

The girl did not aim the spray at anyone, and the leak was mostly contained inside her backpack, Forsyth County Schools spokeswoman Jennifer Caracciolo told the news outlet. But it is not clear why the young girl had the pepper spray on campus since it is against school rules.

Caracciolo says the student also faces a two-week ban from the school bus.
