  1. Tin Cup Grill in Cumming is hosting the Cumming City Center's newest monthly event - a Cruise-In Car Show on Thursday, Aug. 3, from 6:00-9:00 p.m., and it will continue on the first Thursday of each month on Vision Drive. Classic car owners can enter through the Canton Road City Center entrance and park along Vision Drive on a first-come, first-serve basis. The event is open to the public, offering free admission and parking, along with the opportunity to win prizes from Tin Cup Grill. (Cumming City Center via Facebook)
  2. In Forsyth County, a man accused of choking a woman during a domestic dispute shot himself during a SWAT standoff and was subsequently arrested. The incident occurred at a residence on Kelly Drive, and the suspect refused to cooperate with negotiators. After hearing a muffled gunshot from inside the home, authorities found the man with a self-inflicted gunshot wound when they entered the house. The woman's condition was not provided, but the suspect was taken to the hospital in critical condition, and no deputies fired their weapons during the incident. (Atlanta Journal-Constitution)
  3. Erin Hall, a Forsyth Descendants Scholarship recipient, shared an inspirational quote from the scholarship committee before presenting her essay at Browns Bridge Church on Jul. 29. The event honored the accomplishments of the local church and community leaders while acknowledging Forsyth County's history with race and honoring Black families who were forced out in 1912. The scholarship program serves as a way to remember the past and support Black families in the county. (Subscription: Forsyth County News)
  4. It was a tragic weekend at nearby Lake Lanier, Thomas "Shep" Milner, 24, lost his life after jumping into the water from his family's dock and being shocked by an electrical current. Another person, Leonardo Martinez, 27, went missing while swimming at Hall County's Van Pugh Park, and Tracy Stewart, 61, drowned near East Bank Park after becoming distressed in the water. Authorities are still investigating the incidents (separately). (Atlanta Journal-Constitution)
