Weather Alert: Winter Storm Warning Issued for Possible Snow, Sleet, Freezing Rain
The next winter storm, expected to hit Cumming on Friday, could bring as much as 3 inches of snow.

The National Weather Service in Peachtree City has issued a winter storm warning for possible snow, sleet and freezing rain for areas in North Georgia, including Cumming.
The issued warning is in effect from 1 p.m. Friday to 1 p.m. Saturday:

HAZARD TYPES: SIGNIFICANT SNOW AND ICE ACCUMULATIONS POSSIBLE
FRIDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH SATURDAY.
TIMING: SNOW BEGINNING FRIDAY AFTERNOON AND
EVENING...TRANSITIONING TO SLEET AND FREEZING RAIN OVERNIGHT

THESE ACCUMULATIONS WILL MAKE TRAVEL DIFFICULT. ICE
ACCUMULATIONS ON TREES AND POWER LINES IS LIKELY. SOME TREES
AND POWER LINES COULD COME DOWN CAUSING POWER OUTAGES.
Forsyth County Schools has been closed all week. Monday was a scheduled student holiday and staff development day, and since Tuesday, classes have been canceled due to weather. But according to the website, schools will reopen on Friday.
Here’s what Cumming residents can expect on Friday and Saturday:
- A low of 12 degrees Thursday evening with 5 to 15 mph winds.
- A slight chance of snow between 1 and 3 p.m. on Friday, followed by a chance of snow and sleet. The high will be around 34 degrees. Chance of precipitation is 30 percent with new snow and sleet accumulation of less than half an inch.
- A chance of snow, freezing rain and sleet Friday night, then a chance of freezing rain and sleet. Chance of precipitation is 50 percent with new snow and sleet accumulation of less than half an inch.
- A chance of freezing rain and sleet before 7 a.m. on Saturday, followed by a chance of freezing rain between 7 a.m. and 1 p.m. and a chance of rain in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 40 percent, and the high will be around 43 degrees.
