Afternoon Storms Wednesday Across Georgia

A few storms may include gusty winds, frequent lightning and heavy rains, according to the National Weather Service.

ATLANTA, GA β€” A stormy Wednesday afternoon is in store for much of metro Atlanta and surrounding areas.

The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook for much of north and central Georgia.

"Isolated to scattered thunderstorms" are expected Wednesday afternoon and evening across much of the reason, according to the alert.

"A few storms could be strong with gusty winds and frequent lightning," the NWS said. "Locally heavy rain will also be possible."

The outlook says that, for the next six days, a slight chance of thunderstorms will will continue.

"Any storm that develops will have the potential to produce gusty winds, locally heavy rain and frequent lightning," the weather service said.

The National Weather Service forecast for Atlanta calls for a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms on Wednesday. It will be mostly cloudy, with a high near 88. Wednesday night's forecast again calls for a 30 percent chance of rain, mainly before 7 p.m., with partly cloudy skies and a low around 71.
