Construction Issues Force Aldi to Delay Opening

The grocery store was originally expected to open in October.

Rainy weather over the summer caused the opening of the new Dacula Aldi to be pushed back from October to November, now, as a result of further construction delays, the store is not expected to open until early December.

Rick Burgess of Kevin Price General Contractors expects the store to open on or about Dec. 5. Aldi spokesperson Daniel Hernandez confirmed the delay and said he expects to have a precise opening date within the next few weeks.

The exterior of the store is mostly finished and the parking lot has been paved and striped. Driveways at the shopping center are under construction. Some coolers and shelving have been installed inside the building and the checkout counters are in place (see photos), but a good deal of interior finish work remains.

The 16,399-square-foot store is under construction on a 1.75-acre tract in The Shire development on Braselton Highway near Jim Moore Road. The grocery retailer is expected to employ 10-12 people.

Aldi currently operates nearby stores in Lawrenceville and Winder. Nationwide, the discount grocery chain has more than 1,200 locations in 32 states.
