Corvette Runs out of Gas, Driver Suspects Fuel Theft

The man said he believed someone stole fuel out of his vehicle while it was parked at his mother's Dacula home.

Despite a fuel economy rating of 15 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the highway, a 1989 Chevrolet Corvette failed to make it as far as the owner thought the vehicle should on a tank of gas.

The 59-year-old Buford man called police on June 19 after his vehicle ran out of gas. The man said he put 18 gallons in the tank on June 10 and had driven the vehicle once daily from his mother's house in Dacula to his Buford home which, according to the incident report, is only two miles away.

"[The Corvette owner] told me that he normally can travel many more miles than what he did on that tank of gas leading him to believe the gasoline was taken out of the vehicle while it was parked," the officer wrote.

The man estimated $50 worth of gasoline had been removed from the vehicle.

The Buford man further advised a lawn mower had been stolen at his mother's home. He said he was not sure if the incidents are related.

Because of the lawn mower theft and the missing fuel, the man advised he intended to install cameras at the home. The man had not checked to see if fuel was missing from any of the other vehicles.

The case is listed as active.
