Here are the top three stories in Dacula today:

  1. Gwinnett County Public Schools is overhauling its disciplinary tribunals' structure. According to the district, it sent significantly more students to alternative schools compared to surrounding school districts of comparable size. The data indicated the disciplinary tribunals mostly impacted Black students, boys, students with disabilities, and children of low-income families. The district hopes to eliminate disproportionate disciplinary practices by 2027. (CBS 46)
  2. According to the Gwinnett County Police Department, thieves stole four French bulldog puppies from a man at gunpoint. According to the report, the three individuals fled from the victim's home in a gray 4-door sedan. The puppies are reportedly worth a total of $20,000. Anyone with information is asked to contact the department. (WRDW)
  3. The Dacula City Council will be holding its next work session and regular meeting this evening (Sep. 1) at City Hall. The work session will begin at 6:00 p.m., followed by the City Council meeting at 7:00 p.m. The agenda for tonight's meeting includes the IWorQ System proposal, a resolution for traffic control on Wilson St. and Third Ave., and the adoption of Article VIII - Tobacco, Vape and Hookah, among other things.
