Georgia Ranked Among States With Most Underprivileged Children
The ranking was determined using data on children in households with below-poverty income and child food-insecurity rates.
Georgia ranked among the states with the most underprivileged children in the U.S. according to a new report from personal finance website WalletHub. The organization compared the 50 states and Washington, D.C. across 26 measures of neediness; including children in households with below-poverty income, child food-insecurity rate, and share of maltreated children, WalletHub said in a news release.
Georgia ranked number 18, behind Kentucky and ahead of Montana. Washington, D.C. and New Mexico topped the list for having the most underprivileged children; on the opposite end of the list was New Jersey and New Hampshire.
WalletHub compiled its ranking using information from the U.S. Census Bureau, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, National Center for Education Statistics, National Alliance to End Homelessness, Equality of Opportunity Project, and the National Institute for Early Education Research, among other sources.
