Gwinnett Roofer Scammed Residents Out Of $17K: Police
The Gwinnett County police are looking for a Buford man accused of ripping off two residents in roofing scams totaling more than $17,000.

SNELLVILLE, GA β The Gwinnett County police are asking the public for tips to locate a Buford man, who they say scammed two Gwinnett County residents out of $17,000 by promising to repair their roofs and then disappearing with their money. The police announced Monday that they obtained warrants for the arrest of Eric Lopez, believed to be in his early 20s, on the charge of theft by conversion.
Lopez operates a company called Renaissance Construction, say police, who accuse him of swindling a Snellville woman out of more than $7,000 and a Lilburn resident out of more than $10,000.
In both cases, Lopez persuaded the victims to sign over insurance checks to him so that he could buy materials needed to fix the roofs, the police said. He then disappeared, never returning to perform the repairs and failing to return phone calls from the victims.

"His exact whereabouts are unknown, but it is believed he may still be operating in the metro Atlanta area with similar scams," the police said Monday in a statement.
Lopez contacted his victims via referrals and by soliciting work door-to-door, the police said.
