Wakefield was brought to Jackson Memorial Hospital, where he died from his wounds, Miami Beach police said. Wakefield’s family has started a GoFundMe campaign to help support his widow and child.

Minutes before this, the gunman chased another randomly chosen man, shooting at him but missing, reports said.

Timothy Burgess told WFOR-TV that he saw the gunman, later identified by police as Davis, take a gun out of his backpack in an alley near the restaurant and start shooting at him.

"I'm like, 'Hey, this guy's got a gun.' And I get over here and he's on me and he's like chasing me around the car," Burgess said.

Burgess ran from the area for his safety.

Miami Beach police investigating the shooting took Davis into custody, later charging him with second-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder. He's being held without bond, police said.
