Here are the top three stories in Dacula today:

  1. A Gwinnett County family has been displaced due to a house fire that occurred Sunday morning. Gwinnett County Fire and Emergency Services responded to the fire around 4:17 a.m. and controlled the fire in under 40 minutes. The home's seven individuals were not injured, but the family's two pet bearded dragons died during the blaze. (Fox 5 Atlanta)
  2. A black bear walked across a Roswell home's front yard. Footage of the incident was shared on social media. According to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources Wildlife Resources Division, bears have been spotted in Gwinnett County. The department warns residents the bears will sometimes enter residential areas to prepare for the upcoming winter. (WSBTV)
  3. Metro Atlanta schools are experimenting with various safety policies during the 2022-2023 school year. Some districts are requiring clear backpacks, random weapons screenings, and arming school resource officers. The policies are meant to reduce the number of gun-related incidents that occur in schools. Last school year, there were eight gun-related incidents that occurred in Gwinnett County Schools.
