In the recording released Tuesday by Gwinnett County Police, Yvonne Ervin told the dispatcher that sons Cameron, 17, and Christopher Ervin, 22, had drugged them with Xanax, then beat and strangled them as they were waking up.

Yvonne Ervin, 50, called 911 at 7:49 a.m. to report the brothers had attacked her and husband Zachary Ervin, also 50, at their residence on Forbes Trail in unincorporated Snellville, police said.

According to the released 911 audio, the mother called from an upstairs bedroom while the husband tried to distract the sons in the garage. She told the dispatcher the sons also possibly had a pistol and a shot gun.

β€œI don’t know why they’ve done this. I really don’t,” the breathless woman told the dispatcher.

Nearly five minutes into the call, Yvonne Ervin told the dispatcher, β€œI just heard them say, β€˜Where did Mom go?’”

Moments later, a scream was heard before the line went silent.

The brothers have been charged with aggravated assault and arson and are being held without bond in the Gwinnett County Jail. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Friday, police said.

Both parents were seriously injured in the attack. Yvonne Ervin has been released from a local hospital, but Zachary Ervin, who received the brunt of the attack, was still being treated, police said.

Gwinnett Police spokesman Cpl. Deon Washington said Tuesday detectives were still processing evidence, trying to determine what led to the alleged attacks.

β€œIt is unclear at this point what the exact reasons were for the attack,” Washington said in an email. β€œBased on the evidence that has been gathered thus far, it is apparent that the brothers launched a plot to kill both of their parents.”

When officers arrived, they immediately found the father, who was β€œseverely injured and bleeding heavily,” and one of the sons, identified at Cameron Ervin in a police incident report emailed to Patch. The father had a serious head injury and was covered in blood.

Zachary Ervin told police he was struck in the head by a shot gun, according to the incident report. Cameron Ervin was taken into custody.

The mother and other son were found inside the residence.

Police found Yvonne Ervin lying injured next to a bed in the bedroom, Christopher Ervin was found face-down in a bathroom, according to the incident report.

Officers also smelled a strong odor of natural gas inside the home, possibly part of the brothers’ plot to set fire to the residence.

Police said there has been no previous history of domestic disputes or violence in the family.

One neighbor told WXIA-TV she has been a neighbor for almost 15 years and called the sons β€œvery respective” and said they would wave and say hello. Both reportedly attended Shiloh High School.
