Medics 'Pull Over' Suspected Drunk Driver

Gwinnett Fire and Emergency Services medics noticed the woman traveling on Braselton Highway in a vehicle with two shredded tires. Woman later informed officer she was on her way to a hotel near the Mall of Georgia to "meet Jesus."

A pair of Gwinnett County Fire and Emergency Services (GCFES)Β employees found themselves in the unusual position of having to conduct a pullover after spotting a vehicle traveling on Braselton HighwayΒ with two shredded tires.

On Aug. 8, theΒ two GCFES medics were leaving the Fire Academy fuel station in Med Unit 16 when they were passed by a 2013 Volkswagon Tiguan. The medics noticed the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed andΒ had two flat tires.

"[The medics] stated that due to the severity of the situation, they decided to try and stop the vehicle to see what was wrong," the officer wrote in the report.

The medics were able to get the vehicle driven byΒ 52-year-old Myrtice Mainer of Ellenwood to pull into the parking lot of Buffalo's on Braselton Highway.

When the officer arrived, Mainer was leaning against the SUV and "mumbling something" to a passerby who had stopped to offer assistance. Upon speaking with Mainer, the officer noticed an odor of alcoholic beverage.

When asked if she had consumed any alcohol, Mainer said she had not and was trying to get to Spa Sydell. Upon further questioning, the officer determined the woman had rented the vehicle at Hartsfield Jackson Airport. Mainer then said she was attempting to locate her girlfriend's apartment.

"I asked the suspect again where she was going and she stated she was 'going to my apartment ... no, a hotel somewhere around the Mall of Georgia to meet Jesus," the report stated.

Based on the officer's observations and the woman'sΒ performance during the field sobriety tests, Mainer was placed under arrest for DUI. The SUV was impounded and Mainer was transported to the Gwinnett County Jail without incident. She was released the following day on a $2,006 bond.
