BRASELTON, GA — Professional motorcycle racing returns to Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta this weekend with the inaugural races of the MotoAmerica Championship Series for 2021. Featuring the country’s top motorcycle road racers, the weekend-long event kicks off with qualifiers on Friday, followed by two full days of racing Saturday and Sunday.

Three riders have Georgia connections:

  • Matthew Scholtz is originally from South Africa, and he lives and trains in Woodstock with his Westby Racing team. Racing in the Honos Superbike class, Scholtz suffered a severe ankle injury at Indianapolis Motor Speedway in 2020 that ended his season. After multiple surgeries and rehabilitation, Scholtz is fully recovered and ready to return.
  • Trevor Standish from Roswell is a third-generation motorcycle racer who has been competing since age four. Standish finished seventh overall in the Twin Cup in 2020, including a season-best sixth place finish at the season finale at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca.
  • Ashton Yates from Milledgeville has risen through the ranks after beginning with MotoAmerica in the Liqui Moly Junior Class. Last season, Ashton made history competing in the Honos Superbike class, becoming the first rider to have competed in all five MotoAmerica classes.

Fans will have access to the action with the open paddock. They can also enjoy autograph sessions, a kids’ zones, and camping with COVID-19 safety protocols in place.
