In-Person Schooling With Online Option Returns To Gwinnett
When students return to school this fall in Gwinnett County, it will be in person — but with an online option.
GWINNETT COUNTY, GA — Gwinnett County public schools will return to in-person classes for the 2021-2022 school year — with an online option.
It won’t be quite like what students experienced during the peak of the pandemic, though.
“Digital learning will be different in the fall,” the district said in a statement posted Friday to its website. For example:

- Students may be taught by teachers not from their own schools. This will save teachers from having to handle the same class both online and in person.
- Middle- and high-school students may take some courses through Gwinnett Online Campus or Georgia Virtual School.
- Course offerings may be more limited.
The Gwinnett County schools statement urges parents to think of online learning as a “yearlong commitment.” Parents who change their minds can return their children to in-person classes at the end of the first semester. Also, parents may opt out of in-person learning for one child if they feel it best serves that child and choose to have another child attend school in-person.
“Digital learning is not optimal for every student,” the district cautions on its statement. “Some students did not do as well academically, socially, or emotionally in the digital learning environment. Parents should consider how their child did during digital learning in making the decision for the 2021-22 school year.”
