Police Say Trio Threw Molotov Cocktails At Gwinnett Police Cars

The three young adults — one from Lawrenceville, one from Dacula and one from Duluth — were charged with first-degree arson.

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA — Three people were arrested Wednesday in Gwinnett County in connection with Molotov cocktails thrown at police cars at officers' homes.

Alvin Joseph, 21, of Lawrenceville; Lakaila Mack, 20, of Dacula; and Ebuka Chike-Morah, 21, of Duluth, were arrested by police. All three were charged with first-degree arson and other crimes.

Late Tuesday night, Gwinnett County Police responded to 911 calls reporting Molotov cocktails thrown at patrol cars parked at officers’ homes in unincorporated Duluth and unincorporated Lawrenceville.

In Duluth, the car fire had already been extinguished by the time Gwinnett County Police arrived. Witnesses reported seeing three black males running from the vehicle.

In Lawrenceville, the Molotov cocktail didn’t make it into the car. When Gwinnett County Police arrived, they found two dents in the patrol car and a fire on the ground behind it, which was put out with a fire extinguisher. Witnesses reported seeing a dark-colored passenger vehicle fleeing the scene.

Later, Lawrenceville Police found a suspected vehicle driven by Joseph with Mack as a passenger. Both were arrested.

Working through the night, Gwinnett Police, the Gwinnett arson squad and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives located and arrested Chike-Morah. Search warrants were obtained for both vehicles linked to the incidents.

All three suspects were being held without bond Thursday at the Gwinnett County Jail.

In an unrelated incident, a Gwinnett County Police officer found his patrol car windshield and driver’s side window smashed — apparently by a brick — early Wednesday morning at his home in unincorporated Lawrenceville.
