Sinkhole Appears Over Weekend, Blocks Gwinnett Intersection
A sinkhole that appeared over the weekend — possibly because of heavy rains — has blocked an intersection in unincorporated Lawrenceville.

GWINNETT COUNTY, GA — A sinkhole in a part of unincorporated Lawrenceville filled with new subdivisions is causing headaches for the people who have to drive around it.
The sinkhole is near the intersection of Prospect Road and Old Fountain Road. Drivers are asked to avoid the area.
A nearby resident who asked not to be identified told Patch that the sinkhole developed over the weekend, probably because of heavy rains that overwhelmed a creek that passes under the road.

As of Monday afternoon, Gwinnett County has not said how long it expects to take to repair the sinkhole.
This is the second sinkhole to appear in metro Atlanta over the weekend. Part of an exit ramp on Interstate 285 in Cobb County developed a sinkhole on Friday. According to The Marietta Daily Journal, a sinkhole appeared in the very same location in 2018.
