Unused Meds To Be Collected For Safe Disposal By Gwinnett Police

GWINNETT COUNTY, GA — All six Gwinnett County police precincts will be accepting prescription drugs for safe disposal — no questions asked — on April 24.

The one-day collection of unused prescription medications is part of the Drug Enforcement Administration’s national Take Back Initiative, meant to help fight an increase in overdose deaths during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Unused or expired prescription medications are a public-safety issue that can lead to accidental poisoning, overdose and abuse. Many teenagers that abuse prescription drugs get them from family or friend’s home medicine cabinets. Also, unused drugs that are flushed down the toilet can contaminate the water supply. Disposing of unused drugs properly can save lives and protect the environment.

Tablets, capsules, patches and other forms of prescription drugs can be dropped off at any of the six precincts for proper disposal. Liquids, syringes, sharps and non-prescription drugs will not be accepted. All collection sites will adhere to COVID guidelines and regulations to keep everyone safe.

People who drop off unused prescription drugs will not be asked questions about their medical history or how they came into possession of the medications.

Unneeded prescription drugs will be accepted at these locations from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., no appointment necessary:

• North Precinct — 2735 Mall of Georgia Blvd., Buford
• East Precinct — 2273 Alcovy Road, Dacula
• Central Precinct — 3125 Satellite Blvd., Duluth
• South Precinct — 2180 Stone Dr., Lilburn
• West Precinct — 6160 Crescent Dr., Norcross
• Bay Creek Precinct — 185 Ozora Road, Loganville
