Dacula residents will have to wait a while longer to learn if there will soon be more retail and commercial space near Highway 316.
On Nov. 5, the Gwinnett County Planning Commission tabled a rezoning request related to a 39.07-acre tract of land on Winder Highway until January. No reason was stated for tabling the request during the meeting.
WUSF 2 Sugarloaf LLC and Walton Georgia LLC have requested their property, located just south of 316, be rezoned from RA-200 (residential) to C-2 (commercial) for the purpose of building a commercial retail and officer center with four outparcels.
The current plans call for two access points on Winder Highway, but none on 316. The applicant also owns the property to the rear of the proposed commercial and retail center. The proposed development would include 364,760 square feet in several buildings including 266,700 square feet of retail space in the main building. A total of 1,079 parking spaces would be provided.
Walton Georgia also owns a 157-acre tract of land within the city limits of Dacula which is slated for development as a "live, work, play" community.
