1 Year Ago: Bathroom Graffiti Warned of Shooting at EPHS

Oct. 16, 2014: The Paulding Sheriff's Office increased presence, but the threat was unsubstantiated.

Authorities are investigating a threat scrawled on a bathroom wall warning there would be a shooting Friday at East Paulding County High School.

The Paulding County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement that classes were still planned for Friday, but students should expect to see an increased law-enforcement presence at the Dallas high school.

“The threat indicated that a weapon would be brought on campus and that there would be a school shooting on Friday October 17, 2014,” the sheriff’s office said in the release. “At this point, the Sheriff’s Office has concluded that the threat is random and has not been substantiated, however, all threats are taken seriously.”

School officials contacted the sheriff’s office after the anonymous threat was discovered. No other information on the contents of the threat has been released.

“We do want to encourage our parents and students to have an open line of communication with faculty, staff and law enforcement any time they have information regarding events of this nature. Additionally, please discuss the serious consequences associated with making any threat to your children,” the sheriff’s office said.
