165 German Shepherds Rescued, Property Owner Faces Charges
The Atlanta Humane Society responded to a neglect case involving about 165 German shepherd dogs on a property in Metter, Georgia.
DACULA, GA β The Atlanta Humane Societyβs Animal Protection Unit responded to a neglect case involving approximately 165 German shepherd dogs on a property in Metter, Georgia, earlier this month. After carefully assessing the scene alongside the Candler County Sheriffβs Department, over 150 dogs ranging in age and health status were found living in extremely neglectful conditions, authorities said.
The owner of the property was arrested and is facing animal cruelty charges. The Atlanta Humane Society team returned to the site and moved the most medically in-need animals back to Humane Society Alpharetta and West Midtown locations.
Dacula's Canine Pet Rescue was among the organizations that organized volunteers to travel to south Georgia where an estimated 250-300 dogs rescued between both locations.

Jessica Rock, director of Legal Advocacy and Law Enforcement Support at the Atlanta Humane Society says, βthe dogs on this property are living in extremely unsanitary conditions and are in desperate need of help. Our team is working closely with Candler County Sheriffβs Department to provide the support and care needed to ensure the best outcome for these dogs.β
All of the animals will be assessed and given a basic medical exam on-site, and the organization is working tirelessly to find safe and appropriate placement for all of the dogs.
